To summarize, maternal mortality has doubled in states with abortion bans post-Roe, disproportionately affecting women of color. While our Democratic Representation in Maryland has been doing some wonderful things to ensure access to reproductive healthcare, many Republicans––including Andy Harris––are vying for policies that will kill pregnant people. Project 2025 is scary, especially concerning the rights and well-being of pregnant people. They suggest a few things that could potentially ban abortion/miscarriage management altogether, or can make it even more difficult to get them.
Republicans have been stripping funding away from all reproductive healthcare, not just abortions. Access to cancer screenings and contraceptives––from daily birth control pills to medication that delays ovulation––are both impacted, not only by the budget reconciliation bill, but by other bills and funding cuts. Please, keep that in mind amid the ongoing government shutdown and know that is just one of the many reasons why Dems are fighting.
